FLCC's most recent nursing classes achieved a 93 percent pass rate on the national exam for registered nurses this year.

A total of 42 of 45 FLCC students who graduated between December 2024 and May 2025 passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on their first attempt, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

FLCC’s pass rate exceeded the statewide average of 83 percent and the national average of 87 percent. Both averages include students earning either an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

FLCC offers an associate degree in nursing that can be completed in two years of full-time study. The program is part of the SUNY Reconnect initiative, which covers tuition, fees and books for adults ages 25 to 55 who have not yet earned a college degree.

In the Rochester area, pass rates for nursing programs offering both associate and bachelor’s degrees ranged from 92 to 96 percent.

Shayna Turner-Johnson, chair of the FLCC Nursing Department, credited faculty and staff for maintaining strong outcomes while the program underwent several years of construction and curriculum updates.

“This high pass rate reflects a remarkable effort by our nursing instructors and staff to implement our new curriculum, move into new facilities and set up new labs and learning tools,” she said.

FLCC renovated and expanded its nursing facilities, opening the Sands Family Center for Allied Health in fall 2022. In January 2023, the college began admitting new students twice each year, and the first midyear class graduated in December 2024.

In a related development, the college launched a licensed practical nursing program in fall 2024 and graduated its first class this past August.
