Light Trapping Seminar and Insect BioBlitz

Tuesday, August 18, 2026

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Interested in small wildlife, such as insects, that become active as the sun begins to set? Join Muller Field Station for a Light Trapping Seminar and Insect BioBlitz.

Muller Field Station is hosting a Light Trapping Seminar and Insect BioBlitz with FLCC alum Ben Knowlton to learn more about the nocturnal life around us. Ben Knowlton is a graduate student in entomology at the University of Kentucky, researching insect and tree conservation in urban landscapes. He earned his A.S. from FLCC in 2018, his B.S. from SUNY-ESF in 2021, and previously worked as an arborist and with New York State IPM.

The seminar and bioblitz will feature an informational presentation on local insects in the Finger Lakes and the purpose of light trapping. Following the presentation, Ben will lead a light-trapping demonstration to identify as many insects as possible. The program will take place both indoors and outdoors and won’t require extensive walking. All are welcome to join!

Spots are limited, so registration is required.
