9/11 Remembrance - Moment of Silence
Friday, September 11, 2026
Meet on the main campus front lawn. (Rain location: Atrium)
On Friday, September 11, at 8:40 a.m., we invite all students, faculty, and staff to gather on the front lawn of the main campus to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. In the event of rain, the memorial will take place in the atrium.
Please arrive by 8:40 a.m. for brief remarks by the college president, followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. The Geneva, Newark, and Victor Campus Centers will also virtually participate in the memorial at this time, allowing our college community to pause together in remembrance.
At 8:46 a.m., the first aircraft struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, marking the beginning of a day that would forever change our nation and leave an enduring impact on countless individuals, families, communities, and generations.
As we gather a quarter-century later, we do so not only to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, but also to honor the courage and sacrifice of first responders, members of the military, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary bravery in the face of unimaginable circumstances. We remember those who never returned home, those who answered the call to serve, those who lost loved ones, and the many individuals who have continued to carry the physical, emotional, and lasting impacts of that day.
This memorial provides our campus community with an opportunity to pause from the demands of our daily lives, reflect upon the significance of September 11, and reaffirm the values of compassion, service, resilience, unity, and respect for one another. Together, we will pause in remembrance and silence, recognizing that although 25 years have passed, the lives, stories, and sacrifices connected to September 11 must never be forgotten.
We encourage all members of our campus community to join us as we come together to remember, honor, reflect, and never forget.
Light refreshments will be available in the Front Atrium following the memorial.
A related event Remembering 9/11 will be held online at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15. Hosted by Professor Robert Brown, this talk will provide an additional opportunity for the campus community to reflect upon the events of September 11, 2001, and their lasting impact.
