The Bias Within: Understanding and Addressing Our Own Biases

The Civil Discourse Series encourages respectful engagement, intercultural understanding, and a sense of belonging at FLCC.

This interactive program explores implicit and explicit bias and how assumptions can influence decision-making, relationships, communication, and perceptions of others. Students will examine how bias develops and learn practical strategies for recognizing and interrupting biased thinking.
Learning Objectives:
  • Define implicit, explicit, and confirmation bias.
  • Identify situations in which personal assumptions can influence behavior.
  • Examine how social experiences and information shape perceptions.
  • Apply strategies for interrupting biased decision-making.
