Democracy on Campus: Preparing for New York's Elections

The Civil Discourse Series encourages respectful engagement, intercultural understanding, and a sense of belonging at FLCC.
This nonpartisan pre-election program is designed to help students understand the upcoming New York State elections and prepare for the ways elections can affect higher education, local communities, the economy, and public policy. The program emphasizes civic participation, media literacy, election information, and respectful political dialogue.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain how New York State elections influence public policy and communities.
- Identify reliable sources of nonpartisan election information.
- Understand the difference between political advocacy and civic participation.
- Develop strategies for maintaining respectful dialogue during politically charged periods.
