Dialogue Across Difference: A Civil Discourse Forum

A structured, lecture-based forum focused on the interpersonal skills and dispositions needed to engage constructively across ideological, cultural, and political differences.

Grounded in research on polarization and communication, the presentation introduces practical frameworks for listening, asking questions, and responding to disagreement in academic, workplace, and community settings. Guided reflection invites participants to examine their own assumptions and communication habits, with optional audience questions reinforcing respectful, skills-based engagement rather than debate.

 

This event is part of the Spring 2026 Civil Discourse Series hosted by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The series will offer students, faculty, and staff opportunities to explore complex social issues through facilitated conversations, panels, and interactive programs that emphasize listening, empathy, and constructive communication.
