Lennie Muscarella: A Retrospective of the Artist

The artist’s connection to FLCC began when a professor showed up at his dental practice.

The College will open the exhibit “Lennie Muscarella: A Retrospective of the Artist” on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the main campus.

Family and friends of the late Lennie Muscarella, including his wife, Regina, will give a talk from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34. They will meet with guests during a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.

Portrait of Lennie Muscarella as a youngman The exhibit includes portraits, shown above, of Emeritus Professors of Art Wayne Williams and Thomas Insalaco that Muscarella has donated to the College. In addition to oil paintings, the exhibit includes drawings, designs, and sculpture.

Muscarella's connection to FLCC began when Professor Insalaco sought dental treatment from Dr. Muscarella, as he was known since setting up his practice in Farmington the late 1970s. He turned this chance meeting into an opportunity to study with Tom.

Art had been a passion for Muscarella throughout his life. At St. Bonaventure University, he studied biology but also designed the schools’ stationery at did portraits of athletes for the school’s Hall of Fame. He continued drawing in the Navy and while establishing his practice. He joined the Rochester Art Club in 1980, contributing to many juried exhibits, and later added oil painting to his skills. His work has been accepted into several national shows. His primary subject matter was the human figure. Lennie Muscarella passed away in March 2024.

Lennie Muscarella: A Retrospective of the Artist will be on display through Nov. 7. The Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday; and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
