BIO 135 - Bio & Society: Science for the 21st Cent
How does biology impact your life and future? From genetics to climate change, biology shapes the world around us-and understanding it gives you the power to make informed decisions about health, technology, and the environment. In this course, students will explore how living systems function, evolve, and interact with the environment. Topics include genetics, biotechnology, evolution, ecology, neuroscience, and climate change, with a focus on real-world applications and contemporary scientific challenges. Through hands-on labs, discussions, and case studies, students will develop scientific reasoning skills by analyzing data, evaluating evidence, and understanding the methods scientists use to study the natural world. Whether we're investigating the ethics of genetic engineering, the effects of AI in biology, or the impact of climate change, this course will help students build a foundation in scientific literacy that extends beyond the classroom. This lab course is designed for non-science majors and will be accessible, engaging, and relevant to students of all backgrounds. This course carries SUNY General Education Natural Science (and Scientific Reasoning) credit.
