National Ski Patrol, Genesee Valley Region
There are 7 units in our region where the volunteers can choose to participate. The organization teaches EMT-level first aid and skiing skills both downhill and cross country. Benefits are based on the area and time served. (Updated 7/2021)
Ontario Youth Bureau
The department works closely with the community to identify and meet the needs of youth ages birth to 21. This entails a variety of methods someone with a human service interest might enjoy. Volunteer opportunities include: - Special Occasion Need - These occur at various times of the year. Some are short-term; others are longer. Rochester School for the Deaf
We would love to have an opportunity to have FLCC students join us as volunteers or participants for either of our two big events of the year: RSD River Ramble (5K Walk/Run/Carnival in June) and Adventures in Education (presentation by a world-renowned "adventurer" in October). *Knowledge of American Sign Language is helpful but not required for either of these volunteer opportunities. Salvation Army of Canandaigua, NY
After School Program - assist with tutoring & recreation for school-age children Sep. - June. Bell Ringing - the primary need for the Salvation Army; they cannot do what they do without donations. Bell ringers are needed at a variety of locations in Canandaigua and 2 in Victor, both indoor and outdoor. Bell ringing runs from early November through December 24, every day except Sundays. Toy Shop - The Salvation Army provides a place for families in need to shop for holiday gifts through a collection of donated toys. Help is needed December 9-20th. (Updated: 3/2024)

The generosity of others is at the core of our existence. It is through the support of our volunteers that we are able to give back to the communities we serve. Become a Program Volunteer: Assist with programs based on an 8-week session or a league schedule. Examples of opportunities might be assisting with a soccer class or reading to preschool students. Serenity House
Our Volunteers are the backbone of the House. They care for the physical needs and daily activities of our residents, including holding hands, reading out loud, showering, talking, laughing, and even crying. Other duties include laundry, running the dishwasher, and running errands. All Volunteers work 4-hour shifts in pairs, and there is always a Nurse on call. Non-caregivers mow the lawn, maintain the gardens, plow and shovel snow, and help with household repairs. They are also welcome to help with our fundraisers.
