DESCRIPTION:The College will launch a free monthly webinar series in January to help people understand and use artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The college will hold webinars on the second Tuesday of the month at noon, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13. FLCC Associate Professor Dave Ghidiu will present on AI bias. Webinars will be held on Zoom and last 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. Register now for the AI Bias webinar Developers train artificial intelligence tools with massive amounts of data, and their responses can reflect human mistakes and stereotypes present in that data. Dave will share ways to recognize and reduce bias in the text and images generated by AI. Dave presented on AI bias in October to about 40 faculty and staff members at the Norman Howard School in Rochester. “Our staff is not sure what to make of AI, nor do they feel comfortable with what its consequences are for thinking and learning,” said Nick Fargnoli, director of students at the school. “Dave’s presentation allowed them to have a more informed opinion about how AI works and how to help students see its benefits and its limitations.” The school invited Dave to return for a more focused discussion in December. “We asked him to discuss plagiarism and how AI detectors are a losing battle,” Fargnoli said. “He presented an alternative view of AI as a learning tool and suggested creating an AI policy generator that would better communicate to students when they may and may not use AI on their assignments. Moving forward, we will look to have Dave come back multiple times to continue to build AI literacy among the staff.” Additional webinar topics and dates are as follows: February 10: The Virtual Roundtable: Building Perspective with AI Personas with presenter Adam Heidebrink-Bruno March 10: Notebook LM: Summarize, Analyze, and Create in Seconds with presenter Dave Ghidiu Webinars will be recorded and shared on the college’s YouTube channel and the Finger Lakes TV network at fingerlakestv.org. The webinar series is a program of the , launched in June 2025 to make AI accessible for education, workforce training, and local businesses. Other programs include AI for Educators, a series of short courses available by subscription, and in-person community events on March 19 and June 10.
