DESCRIPTION:The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership will host More Than a Month: The Lasting Impact of Hispanic American Contributions. The keynote speaker is Tere Paniagua, executive director of cultural engagement for the Hispanic community at Syracuse University. Click here to join the event online via Webex. Paniagua leads La Casita Cultural Center and Punto de Contacto–Point of Contact, two university-supported cultural centers that connect higher education with the community through arts, educational programs and cross-cultural engagement. With more than two decades of experience in nonprofit and university leadership, she oversees programming, development and co-curricular initiatives that create opportunities for experiential learning. She is especially committed to fostering dialogue across cultures and disciplines, building partnerships, and amplifying the voices of Latino communities in Central New York. In addition to her role at Syracuse University, Paniagua serves on the Board of Trustees at WCNY/PBS, on the Advisory Board of the Syracuse University Humanities Center, and as faculty advisor to two student organizations: La LUCHA, the Puerto Rican Student Association (PRSA). Paniagua also received her Bachelor of Science from the historic Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications. This event will highlight the rich cultural, social and educational contributions of Hispanic Americans and encourage dialogue on engagement, leadership and representation.
