Teaching Center Professional Development Projects

Beginning in 2006, the Teaching Center Planning Board will begin accepting project proposals annually on the first day of the Spring semester.  Proposals will be considered on a first come, first serve basis until funds are exhausted.  Applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals for any project to be completed during that calendar year.  The Planning Board will review proposals once a month at their monthly meeting.  Please note that there is a specific electronic application form for each of the three project types described below.  Electronic application forms should be submitted Kelli Prior, Coordinator of the Teaching Center (priorka@flcc.edu).

I.  PEDAGOGICAL ENHANCEMENT PROJECT (PEP)

This project involves proposals for improving teaching effectiveness. This is a great opportunity to pilot ideas which cannot wait for a full sabbatical!

Substantial change is sought in any combination of the following:

Teaching Techniques
Classroom / Instructional Assessment Techniques
Technology Applications
Creating New labs / Lab Manuals
Other Improvements in Teaching and Learning

If your project is funded, it is expected that you will provide a progress report and a final report electronically to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Coordinator of the Teaching Center so that your work can be incorporated in an effort toward wider dissemination. It is expected that you will share your results in future Brown Bag sessions or in workshops.

On the application, you will be asked to detail the time commitment for the project and request a commensurate level of compensation (typically 1-3 contact hours).

II. FACULTY INTERNSHIP

This is an opportunity for you to stay current in your respective area of teaching expertise. It is expected that each internship would be completed in January or during the Summer when regular classes are not in session.

A compensation of $500.00 will be paid through the Office of Academic Affairs upon completion of a brief report (2 pages) of the internship which should be sent electronically to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Coordinator of the Teaching Center.

III. TECHNOLOGY MENTOR/MENTEE NETWORK

The Teaching Center will support proposals from Technology Mentors/Mentees, to work on a project of their choosing. This opportunity for technology training has been developed in response to the need for an extended training in specific technologies for use in classrooms. Mentors/Mentees collaborate on projects involving the use of a specific technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Each team would be expected to meet for ten one-hour meetings following approval of your proposal. A mid-term progress report (1 page) and an end-of-project report (2 pages) are required and should be submitted electronically to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Coordinator of the Teaching Center. Each participant will be paid $350.00 through the Office of Academic Affairs upon completion. Past mentees can serve as mentors.
