Placement Options
When you complete basic skills testing, you will be advised into the appropriate course upon registration. You may be required to enroll in GST 102 (College Composition), a course that will aid you in developing and refining your writing ability. It is possible you may be required to take GST 121 or 122 (Effective Reading). You may also be told that your skills are sufficient to enroll in Freshman English. In some cases you can be told that you are a good candidate for Honors English.
There are several placement options for those of you who are required to take the algebra test. You can be recommended to take the GST 142 (Fundamental Mathematics and Algebraic Skills) if you need to work on algebra, or if you never took an algebra course. You can be advised to take College Algebra, Pre-Calculus or College Calculus.
Music students are tested on music theory principles. This will allow a Music advisor to determine if you are prepared to handle the Music theory sequence of courses. If you are not ready for the theory, you will be advised into preparatory coursework.
