How to Apply for Financial Aid

All applicants desiring consideration for financial assistance must submit appropriate application materials and documentation as requested. Most financial assistance is awarded during the Spring and Summer semesters for the following academic year. Therefore, careful attention should be directed to the deadline date quoted.

Because there are insufficient funds to meet the financial need of all prospective applicants, applications are considered according to the date received. All applications received by the recommended filing date are given equal consideration for available funds. Late applications are accepted and processed as funds become available.

Recommended Filing Deadline for 2007-2008 is April 1, 2007.

  • Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1st as possible.  This can be done on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Prior to filing, families need to secure federal pin numbers at www.pin.ed.gov.  One pin is required for the student and one for the parent.  These act as signatures for the application.
  • Complete the FAFSA with 2006 income and asset information.
  • After submitting the FAFSA the web site will allow the student to link directly to the state grant Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.
  • Students will also need to complete FLCC’s Supplemental Application for Financial Aid Adobe Acrobat, PDF
  • If a student does not have computer access, all forms can be requested from the FLCC Financial Aid Office.

The Financial Aid Office will prepare a notice of award for all incoming students who have been accepted and all returning students who have pre-registered for the Fall semester. This notice will show the aid that the student can expect to receive at Finger Lakes Community College. This aid will include both the aid being offered by the College and estimates of aid that should be received from outside agencies. Notices of award are prepared on a rolling basis beginning in March.

All students should be prepared to document the income shown on the FAFSA. Appropriate forms of documentation include the 2006 federal income tax form, and social security, social services or veterans benefits statements. In 2007-2008, all students will be expected to document the 2006 income.
