GED Guidelines to Keep in Mind

Students can take the GED test if they are 17 or 18 and have been out of high school for at least one year OR were members of a high school class that has graduated. A completed official NYS GED Test Verification Form with student’s name, date of birth, social security number, date of student’s withdrawal OR class graduation date must be signed by a guidance counselor and attached to the test application.Verification forms are available from GED instructors or by calling (585) 394-3500, extension 7431.

Adults and students 19 years old or older do not need to complete a verification form but must fill out an official test application. They will receive one when they attend any of our classes.

All students who take the GED exam must complete a demographic form. Sample forms are available at any class site.

A writing sample is required for the GED test so it is important for students to get some help in writing by coming to classes. The official test is administered on two consecutive days to accommodate the writing sample.

Students who need testing accommodations on the GED exam must notify the GED instructor upon enrollment in the class. Special testing can be arranged if appropriate documentation is provided. Since special testing must be pre-approved, extra time is needed to process the application.

There is continuous enrollment in these classes so new students may join the classes at any time.

For more information, call Sharon Nedrow at (585) 394-3500 ext. 7431.
