Honors Studies Program
Dear Advisors:
In order to better place students in Honors Studies during the advising process, the following profile has been developed to identify the type of learner that will most likely thrive in the honors environment. While we do use placement scores to designate honors status, this is only one of many ways students can be identified for Honors Studies. As advisors, your insight can be very helpful in placing the right students into the program. As you advise students, please consider the following questions as indicators of potential success in Honors Studies.
Does the student
- have a strong academic record from high school or a transfer school?
- already have AP and/or Gemini credit for English 101 and/or 102?
- come from a home school or alternative school environment?
- demonstrate strong communication and critical thinking skills?
- demonstrate intellectual curiosity?
- have a strong background or interest in the arts or humanities?
- have interests that span more than one discipline?
- thrive in self-directed, loosely structured learning environments?
Any student can take an Honors Seminar or an Honors Designated course, such as ENG104 and ENG105. However, if a student wants to be formally enrolled in the Honors Studies program they will need to meet with the Honors Director and complete an Honors Studies application.
If you or your advisees have any questions, contact Curt Nehring Bliss the Director of Honors Studies at ext. 7367 email nehrincd@flcc.edu.
