FLCC / FAST FACTS

FLCC MESSAGE

FLCC Founded: Established: 1965. Opened: 1967

Enrollment: 5,150 full- and part-time students (Fall 2006). The average age of full-time students is approximately 23; part-time, approximately 24. Students from more than 275 different high schools from New York State and across the United States enrolled at Finger Lakes last year, along with students from a few countries.

Graduates: Fifty-five percent of FLCC students graduate with A.S. or A.A. transfer degrees prepared for further study at four-year institutions. Others graduate with A.A.S. degrees or certificates prepared to obtain employment in their field of study.

Special Opportunities: Finger Lakes Community College offers more than 40 academic degree and certificate programs, Honors courses, January Plan, distance learning classroom and SUNY Learning Network Courses, Internships, high school dual-credit programs, non-credit and workforce training offerings, and Adult Basic Education/GED programs. The College also holds Joint Admissions Agreements and Transfer Agreements with public and private four-year colleges and universities that allow graduates to transfer their credits in pursuit of bachelor's degrees, while receiving full junior status.

Campus & Facilities: FLCC's campus of more than 250 acres is located adjacent to the scenic and recreationally-rich Canandaigua community, 45 minutes from Rochester, in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. The College also has off-campus centers in Geneva and Newark. The multi-level Canandaigua campus includes science and computer laboratories, a simulated nursing hospital station, drafting rooms, technology-enhanced classrooms, a 900 square-foot television studio and control room, a recording studio, greenhouse, music rehearsal hall, gymnasium, and a library complex. Additionally, the College offers extensive computer resources for student learning.

Other special FLCC features include landscaped and natural hiking trails, outdoor classrooms, athletic fields, a modern Child Care Center, the Muller Conservation Field Station located at the southern end of Honeoye Lake, and the Constellation Brands - Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC).

Student Life: Activities for student involvement and networking include the Student Corporation, Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Beta Gamma honor societies, student publications, theatre productions, art exhibits, musical organizations, lectures, concerts, and special interest clubs.

Intercollegiate Athletics: Finger Lakes sponsors men's baseball, basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, and track teams, as well as women's basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, softball, soccer, and track. Men and women participate in a nationally recognized Woodsmen team.

Standards of Excellence: All courses of instruction at Finger Lakes Community College are registered with the Office of Higher Education of the State Education Department. Finger Lakes Community College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of College and Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-2680; Phone: (215) 662-5606. The Finger Lakes Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing. The Gemini Program is accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.

The documents describing the accreditation by (1) the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; (2) the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; and (3) the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships can be reviewed by request at the reserve desk in the College’s Library.

Financial Aid: More than 75% of Finger Lakes students received financial aid last year, totaling over $16 million. Contact the Financial Aid Office for scholarship information.

Student Services: Professionals are available to all students in the areas of Academic Support, The Write Place (campus writing center), Career Services, The Center for Advisement and Personal Development, and Student Health Services.
