Coaching Courses Leading to Certification

Finger Lakes Community College offers a three-online course sequence (PE 230, PE 231, and PE 232) designed to prepare students for the coaching certification required for coaching athletic teams in New York State public schools. All courses are offered online through the award winning SUNY Learning Network. Courses provide students with an understanding of the basic philosophy and principles of athletics in education, the health- related aspects of athletes, and the techniques used to coach a specific sport.   • PE 230 - Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics in Education
  • PE 231 - Theory and Techniques of Coaching
  • PE 232 - Health Sciences Applied to Coaching.

The Faculty

Currently Director of Athletics, Bob Lowden is a former head baseball coach at FLCC who was awarded the Northeast District Coach of the Year Award by the National Junior College Athletic Association in 1994 and 1992. He was also selected Regional Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1992 and given the Louisville Slugger Coaching Award in 1994. Lowden led Finger Lakes Community College to Regional Titles in 1992 and 1994 and on trips to the NJCAA World Series in the same years. In 2005, Lowden was named Mid-State Conference Coach of the Year.
