Associate in Science (A.S.)
Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S)
The diversity of occupations held by Business Administration graduates accounts for the popularity of this degree program. Among two-year colleges, both public and private, Business Administration is one of the most widely held degrees, second only to Liberal Arts and Sciences. Both Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees at Finger Lakes will prepare you for the ever-changing business world, allowing you to enter the job market in any number of positions: service sales representative, management analyst and consultant, account clerk, credit clerk and authorizer, accounts receivable clerk, store manager, office manager, bank teller, staff accountant, warehouse manager, and more.
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in Business Administration and the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Business Administration, both offered at Finger Lakes Community College, differ in focus.
A.S. Degree: The A.S. degree is designed to prepare you to transfer to a four-year college or university such as SUNY Colleges at Geneseo, Brockport, Cortland and Fredonia, Nazareth College of Rochester, St. John Fisher College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Syracuse University, and Canisius College, among others*, to pursue a baccalaureate degree in accounting, business administration, management information systems, or secondary education.
A.A.S. Degree: In contrast, the A.A.S. degree is designed to prepare you for employment upon graduation in a variety of positions in the business community, with a broad-based business foundation in accounting and economics as well as intense study in the fields of marketing, management, or business administration. A.A.S. students are also accepted at St. John Fisher College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Nazareth College of Rochester.*
Honors Courses: The College offers honors courses that provide enhanced educational experiences for students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability. Enrollment in honors courses is open to qualified students enrolled in this degree program, as well as all other qualified FLCC students. Successful completion of honors courses or an Honors Certificate may increase student transfer options to four-year institutions.

Both the A.S. and the A.A.S. degrees in Business Administration prepare you to face the challenges of an ever-changing and diverse business world. The faculty have real-world experience as managers, business owners, and certified public accountants, and they relate that experience to the theories they teach in class.
Internships: For FLCC Business Administration students, internships play a key role. Placement in local businesses and agencies including Ontario County, the City of Geneva, Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, Canandaigua National Bank, the National Bank of Geneva, Thompson Health, BOCES, and others provides valuable experience and networking opportunities.
Online Learning: As part of the SUNY Learning Network (SLN), students pursuing the Business Administration degree may take the majority of the curriculum requirements online. Students may take a course at a convenient time and place without the need to travel to campus, thus eliminating any time and location restrictions a student may have.
Graduates from both of these programs have successfully transferred with full junior status to many public and private four-year institutions. Others have become payroll coordinators, receipt and inventory managers, customer service specialists, bank tellers, and managers at large and small companies.
